ETN-Network’s Richard Ells highlights the importance of regulation protecting consumers and incentivising innovation

On 9 June 2021, ETN-Network CEO and Founder Richard Ells participated in a Blockchain for Europe Summit 2021 panel debate on “Social Impact via blockchain on a global scale – how the technology is affecting humanity.”

During that session, Ripple, cLabs, and the ETN-Network agreed that financial watchdogs worldwide must focus on developing balanced cryptocurrency regulations that allow innovation to flourish while protecting crypto enthusiasts from fraud, scams, and market manipulation.

“Regulators have just got to get their heads around the fact that this (crypto) is the future,” said Mr. Ells. He also said he’d like to see a “bit more understanding from the regulators of where the unbanked really genuinely sit” so they can implement a system that helps foster financial inclusion without stifling innovation.

Ripple Head of Public Policy Susan Friedman said she believes “regulators are correct to focus on consumer protection and making sure that they are not subject to fraud and manipulation in the crypto markets. But that has to be balanced with creating frameworks that allow innovators to grow products, to develop them to be able to reach the populations that they’re looking to benefit.”

The panel moderator, Anca Bogdana Rusu, cLabs Head of Partnerships, Policy, and Advocacy, asked regulators worldwide to do their best to ensure they are not blocking innovation or social impact. “Whenever the social impact blockchain concept” comes up, “hold a mirror and ask if you’ve done everything in your power to promote regulation, both for innovation as well as real impact.”

“I am liaising with our colleagues at  ARK and  MarketSquare on pages relating to the various products and services covered by the ETN-Network, as well as preparing a handful of invitations for some of our community members who we have been told will gain access to the early BETA of MarketSquare,” he noted.

Tech improvements and upgrades

Senior Tech Developer Chris Day said his team is working on updating and upgrading their internal processes to improve security, reduce technical debt, and the time it takes to develop, making the environments in which they work more consistent.

For those who are not so tech-oriented, technical debt refers to other coding or processes getting delayed during the development of a software project to hit a deliverable or deadline.

In the meantime, App Developers/UI Ben Whomsley and Costin Cristoi have been working to improve internal processes, including onboarding of new ETN App and AnyTask.com users, making them more efficient.

Whomsley and Cristoi also said they are focusing great efforts on improving the UX (user experience) and design within the ETN App to improve the way services are displayed, such as mobile phone and electricity top-ups as well as many other in-ETN-App purchases that will be integrated in the coming weeks.
